State Rep. Avery Bourne (R-Litchfield) is vowing to oppose a bill that would repeal the law stipulating that parents be notified before a minor can have an abortion.

“I will continue to fight for these expectant moms and their babies and to oppose this bill,” Bourne posted on Facebook. “Please stay diligent and contact your elected officials to tell them you support keeping parental notification in Illinois.”

Bourne argues the notification legislation is already making a difference.

“Within five months after this notification bill was implemented, abortions among minors dropped 20%,” she added. “This notification is common sense and it works.”

Bourne and supporters of the notification legislation argue all indications are it’s what parents and voters want to see, pointing to data that finds almost three out of every four respondents are opposed to repealing the notification requirement.
