In a Nov. 18 Facebook post, Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) shared a post from Rep. Dave Severin (R-Marion) about the Five Loaves Thanksgiving Dinner.
"More than 300 meals served" Bryant said in the post.
"A great time was had by all at yesterday's Five Loaves Annual Thanksgiving Dinner in Sesser" Severin said in his post. "Good to have Senator Terri Bryant there with us! Great volunteers served in person and delivered meals to members of the community."
The Thanksgiving dinner event at Five Loaves Cafe goes back several years, according to the Benton Evening News. The first event was held in 2017 and there were more than 200 Thanksgiving dinners served that year. That event took place just around half a year after that location first opened, according to the Benton News.
The program initially formed when federal budget cuts put the Meals on Wheels program at risk, according to the Benton News.
Bryant and Severin both ran unopposed in November's general elelction.
