McKendree University was pleased to play host for 200 local Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) high school students, who took part in competitions and workshops on campus on Thursday, Jan. 12. Students hailed from nine schools across the region, including Belleville Township High School, Carlyle High School, Central Community High School, Collinsville High School, Freeburg High School, Mascoutah High School, Mater Dei High School, O’Fallon Township High School and South Central High School.
The day kicked off with breakfast in the lobby at McKendree’s Hettenhausen Center for the Arts (the Hett) with the opening ceremony taking place shortly after. Daniel Dobbins, president of McKendree University, welcomed the scores of students to the campus during the ceremony. Then, students flocked to Piper Academic Center (PAC) and areas in the Hett to begin competitions in several categories, including accounting, advertising, business communication, cybersecurity, journalism, public speaking and many more.
Following lunch, workshops and a few games, the winners of the various competitions were announced and given awards before the end of the event.
Southwestern Area FBLA would like to thank all of the sponsors and presenters for assisting with this year’s conference, including: AVH Ink & Vinyl, Beast Craft BBQ Co., ComputerEase, Glorifying Design & Staging, McKendree University, KPMG, Gwinn Chiropractic Center, Make-a-Wish Missouri & Kansas and Tonnies Hardware & Rental.
