Metro East Sun

There were 56 offenders living in Madison County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Metro East Sun.

The data shows 48 men and eight women were released in Madison County. Of the parolees, two were veterans, and the median age was 36. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2022, and the oldest was a 65-year-old man sentenced for a sex crime in 2021.

The offender incarcerated the longest was Gary Runge. He was convicted of homicide in 1997 when he was 29 years old. He is now 55.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
