The Illinois State Police have issued a warning to residents regarding a recent phone scam where scammers are impersonating ISP investigators. According to the Illinois State Police, "ISP special agents will NOT make cold calls requesting personal or financial information or ask you to confirm personal or financial information."

In response to this scam, the Illinois State Police provided guidance to residents, stating, "If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be an ISP investigator, ask for the caller’s name, badge number, and phone number, and then hang up." Residents are advised to be cautious and vigilant when receiving unsolicited calls requesting personal or financial information.

The Illinois State Police emphasized the importance of verifying the identity of individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers before providing any sensitive information. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious phone calls to the authorities.

For more information and resources on how to protect yourself from scams, residents can visit the Illinois State Police website at https://isp.illinois.gov/Media/PressReleaseFile/934.
