FOIA Request Sent to City of Granite City Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Granite City regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun are seeking transparency in public records. The specific request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, is for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid within the city. This includes details such as the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due.

We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested for a fee waiver as a media professional.

This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to keep our readers informed about issues affecting their community. We will continue to follow up on this request and provide updates as they become available.
