State Senator Erica Harriss and State Representative Amy Elik recently organized their annual Kids Fair in Granite City, attracting hundreds of children and families from the Metro East area. The event aimed to connect families with local and state resources while providing entertainment for children.
“This event is a one-stop shop for families to connect with important local and state resources for their children,” stated Senator Harriss. She highlighted that parents could access helpful information while kids enjoyed free activities and treats.
The fair included various attractions such as a foam party, face painting, a balloon artist, a touch-a-truck experience, and free vision and hearing screenings. Families were also offered complimentary snacks and drinks, courtesy of sponsors like Kraft, Meridian, Twigs for Kids, and Granite City Route 66.
Representative Elik emphasized the importance of serving the community through such events. “As legislators, it’s our job to serve the community, whether that’s at the Capitol or right here at home,” she said. Elik noted that bringing local families together for a fun event that also connects them with valuable resources is central to their mission.
Both lawmakers expressed gratitude towards Granite City leaders and The Mill Events venue for hosting the fair. They plan to continue this tradition next summer.
