A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Wood River Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at Metro East Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We are seeking detailed information about sales tax collected from retailers in the city from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. Specifically, we requested records showing monthly sales tax collections versus projections and the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month. We also asked for the names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported for each month.
As a media organization, we believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
