FOIA Request to City of East St. Louis, IL Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the City of East St. Louis, Illinois.
The request seeks records pertaining to all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The information requested includes the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the work is being done and contractor's name.
Additionally, we have also requested for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same details as mentioned above are sought for these active permits as well.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We continue to strive towards providing our readers with pertinent information that allows them to better understand their community's affairs.
We have also requested for a fee waiver given our role as a media organization disseminating information to the public.
