FOIA Request to City of Alton Regarding New and Active Residential and Commercial Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
We at Metro East Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to building permits issued in the city from January 1, 2023 till date.
The requested records include a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued within this period with specific details such as type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also requested for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The details sought in this regard are similar to those for new permits - type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address and contractor's name.
As an organization dedicated to reporting news to the public and holding public institutions accountable through transparency, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await the City of Alton's response to our request and remain open for any questions they may have regarding it.
