City of Edwardsville Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met Nov. 25

Here is the agenda provided by the commissioners:

A Special Meeting of the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners was called to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Governor Ford Conference Room in the Edwardsville City Hall with Chairman, John W. McCracken, presiding. 

Commissioners Attending: John W. McCracken, John Cunningham, Jean Hughes and Roger L. Huber. Commissioner Harris was out-of-state visiting family. Also Attending: Fire Chief Brendan McKee, HR Director Amanda Tucker and EPD Detective Sergeant, Matt Senci. 

Administrative: 

At 5:05 pm, Commissioner Cunningham moved to adjourn to Closed Session with a second by Commissioner Hughes to review the Pre-Employment Background for three (3) Applicants at the rank of Probationary Firefighter-EMT; namely Heather Schneider, Ben Reyne and Nathan Kuhl. Motion carried. As part of the screening process, Schneider and Reyne were personally interviewed to clarify some of the data found in their background and to determine their fitness for duty. 

At 6:25 pm, Commission Hughes arose from Closed Session and moved to return to Open Session. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the Motion, which carried without dissent. 

Fire Department: The following actions were taken once the Meeting reconvened in Open Session. 

Commissioner Huber made a Motion to suspend and cancel any further Pre-Employment Background Investigation into the candidacy of Applicant Nathan Kuhl and rescind the Conditional Letter of Employment tendered to this individual. Commissioner Hughes seconded the Motion which carried unanimously. 

Commissioner Cunningham moved to appoint Heather Schneider to the rank of Probationary Firefighter-EMT. Schneider's appointment is "Conditional" for a period for up to three (3) months pending her successful knee surgery, rehab and release by her surgeon to assess her fitness for duty to perform the rigors of her employment. Schneider will be re-assessed by Midwest Occupational Medicine prior to a formal appointment. Commissioner Hughes seconded the Motion, which passed unanimously. 

Commissioner Huber made a Motion to rescind the Conditional Letter of Employment tendered to Candidate Ben Reyne and appoint him full time to the rank of Probationary Firefighter-EMT. Commissioner Hughes seconded the Motion, which carried by voice vote without dissent. 

Commissioner Cunningham made a Motion to authorize a Conditional Letter of Appointment to be tendered to Applicant Austin Abdulhadi. Commissioner Hughes seconded the Motion which carried with unanimous consent. 

At 6:45 pm after the conclusion of business, the Meeting was adjourned.
