On January 28, 2025, we at Metro East Sun sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Cahokia Community Unit School District 187. The request pertains to all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study".

As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In our request, we highlighted our role in disseminating information to the public and stated our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
