Former Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan has been found guilty of bribery conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud charges. The verdict follows a lengthy trial that exposed significant corruption among his closest allies. Representative Charlie Meier commented on the outcome, stating, "This verdict should send a message to the leaders in our state that something has to change."

Meier emphasized the need for reform in Illinois' ethics laws, highlighting proposed legislation by House Republicans aimed at strengthening these laws. This includes measures such as preventing public officials from using campaign funds for legal defense and suspending pensions for lawmakers facing corruption charges.

In another legal development, Judge T. Scott Webb ruled against certain elements of the FOID Card Act in People of the State of Illinois v. Vivian Brown. The ruling came after Vivian Brown was charged with possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card despite authorities determining her rifle had not been fired. Meier expressed support for this decision, calling it "a victory for Illinoisans who believe in their constitutional right to bear arms without unnecessary government intervention."

Additionally, there is controversy surrounding HB 2827, which proposes new regulations on homeschooling families in Illinois. Meier criticized the bill, arguing it imposes undue burdens on families who choose to homeschool their children.

Around his district, Meier participated in various community activities including meetings with local organizations and attending fundraisers. He also highlighted National FFA Week and shared personal updates about his farm.
