Today, an internal memorandum from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was leaked, revealing discussions about possible reductions in force at the VA. House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.) responded to the leak with a statement emphasizing his commitment to veterans' care and benefits.
Chairman Bost expressed his dedication to ensuring that veterans, their families, and survivors receive the care they deserve with a responsible and efficient VA budget and workforce. "No one can argue with the fact that we want to see veterans, their families, and their survivors have access to the care and benefits they have earned with the most responsible, modern, and efficient VA budget and workforce," he stated.
Bost has been in communication with Secretary Collins since the memo's leak. He voiced concerns about how these potential workforce cuts might affect service delivery, particularly following the PACT Act's implementation. "I have questions about the impact these reductions and discussions could have on the delivery of services," Bost said.
In his role as Chairman, Bost intends to closely monitor developments regarding this plan. He aims to collaborate with fellow Republicans in Congress, Senate colleagues, and the administration to prioritize veterans in VA's mission. "I will work with our entire Republican conference, our colleagues in the Senate, and the administration to ultimately put veterans back at the core of VA’s mission," he concluded.
