Senator Harriss organizes community cleanup day with multiple donation opportunities

State Senator Erica Harriss is partnering with various Metro East organizations for the annual Community Shred Event and Cleanup Day. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Wood River, aligning with Earth Month. It offers residents a chance to dispose of sensitive documents securely, donate items, and drop off unused medications.

“With spring cleaning in full swing, this event gives residents a convenient way to responsibly clear out household clutter while giving back to those in need,” said Senator Harriss. “From donating hygiene products to properly disposing of prescriptions, we are making it easy for the community to contribute to a cleaner and safer environment.”

A shred truck will be available for document disposal. Several organizations will collect donations:

- I Support the Girls – Edwardsville: menstrual hygiene products, underwear, and bras.

- The Metro East Humane Society: cleaning supplies and pet care items.

- The Glen-Ed Pantry: toys, small household items, appliances, jewelry, and nonperishable food.

- Wood River Parks and Recreation: youth sports equipment.

- Wood River Police Department: prescription drugs.

- Soles4Souls: shoes.

- Lions Club: eyeglasses.

“This event is an easy way to support local charities while helping the environment,” added Sen. Harriss. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to declutter, donate, and make a positive impact in our community.”

The event will occur at the Wood River Police Department parking lot from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on April 5.
