Mike Bost, representing Illinois’ 12th District in the U.S. Congress, has been vocal on several issues recently through social media. Bost, 62, who hails from Murphysboro, Illinois, has a long career in politics, serving in Congress since 2015 after a two-decade tenure in the Illinois House of Representatives and a stint on the Jackson County Board.

On April 19, 2025, Bost expressed concerns regarding energy policies. According to him, "Southern Illinois families remember what it was like under the Biden administration — skyrocketing energy bills, unreliable grids, and over $1,700 more a year just to keep the lights on." He advocates for a return to American energy independence, stating, "Under President Trump we will restore American energy independence. We’ll get it done through." link

Two days later, on April 21, 2025, Bost addressed state-level legislation on trans athletes. He criticized the stance of Illinois Democrats, saying, "It’s flat-out wrong for Pritzker and the Illinois Democrats to let biological boys compete in girls’ sports and use their restrooms. Their radical laws are unfair and put our daughters at risk." Bost highlighted his role in passing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, adding that this underscores his commitment to women's sports. link

In a separate tweet on the same day, referencing the ongoing debate, Bost mentioned a brewing conflict over the Illinois trans athlete policy. link

The congressman's public statements reflect ongoing contentious debates around energy independence and the inclusion of transgender athletes, issues which continue to be significant in Illinois and across the United States.
