House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost expressed support for a new initiative by the Department of Veterans Affairs aimed at simplifying the process for survivors and dependents of deceased veterans to access benefits. The announcement was made by VA Secretary Doug Collins, detailing a three-pronged strategy to remove barriers in the application and receipt of VA benefits.
Chairman Bost, along with Representatives Ciscomani, Valadao, and other House Republicans, has been advocating for changes to reduce administrative hurdles created under the Biden administration. Their efforts have focused on improving services related to Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) claims among others.
Bost stated, “It should go without saying that the grieving surviving families of our nation’s veterans should not have to comb through piles of paperwork by themselves just to get the benefits their veteran loved ones have earned.” He thanked the Trump administration for taking steps to dismantle what he described as unnecessary bureaucracy introduced during Biden's presidency.
He further emphasized the importance of prioritizing survivors' needs: “We have to keep pushing VA forward to meet the needs of veterans and their families – today’s action by Secretary Collins is in lockstep with that mission.”
