House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost expressed his support following President Donald J. Trump's signing of an Executive Order aimed at enhancing services for veterans. The order seeks to improve care, increase accountability, and establish a National Center for Warrior Independence to assist homeless veterans.
Chairman Bost emphasized the need for change within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), stating, “We know that there are areas where VA is falling short and services can be improved. Business as usual is not cutting it, and the American people – including America’s veterans – voted for change." He highlighted issues such as long wait times for benefits, insufficient resources for transitioning servicemembers, and denied referrals for health care and mental health support.
Bost further remarked on the significance of the action plan initiated by President Trump: “It’s time to change the way VA works, and President Trump has made clear that accountability is back in Washington.” He noted that with this initiative, Secretary Collins and Republican members of Congress would collaborate to guide the agency into a new era focused on innovative solutions for veterans.
