The City of Alton is planning to hold a large item drop-off day for residents to dispose of unwanted items for free.

The City of Alton and Republic Services have partnered to create a large item drop-off day in Alton where residents can dispose of large items at no cost.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 9, at the former landfill on Alby Street.

Residents of the city can drop off items such as mattresses, furniture, bulky items that do not fit within trash receptacles, and carpets. An e-waste recycling drive provided by CJD E-Cycling will also be on site, so residents can bring by electronics.

It is important to note that not all items will be accepted. Some items that will not be accepted include concrete, shingles, construction debris, loose trash, trash in bags, cardboard boxes, tires and other household hazardous materials.

The event is for Alton residents only.

“We are pleased to partner with Republic Services and offer this event,” Mayor Brant Walker said. “Our next large item drop-off will be on Saturday, Aug. 20, once again, giving residents the opportunity to dispose of large items at no charge.”
