Edwardsville FD responds to 67 fires in 2016

Edwardsville Fire Department responded to 289 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The calls in Edwardsville included 67 fires - 33 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $464,800 in fire loss - or about $6,937 per fire.

The department also received 222 false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Edwardsville Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and 22 retired or inactive employees, was $1,220,661 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $18,219 for every fire in 2016.
