Madison County voters approve several ballot questions

Voters in Madison County approved several ballot questions on Nov. 6. Here is how they voted:

"Shall the Office of the Madison County Recorder of Deeds be eliminated and all duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Madison County Recorder of Deeds be transferred to, and assumed by the Office of the Madison County Clerk by December 7, 2020?"

With 100 percent of votes counted, merging the recorder's office with the county clerk's office had 63,548 votes in favor and 34,243 against.

Taxpayers in Madison County voted for a referendum calling for a County of Madison Advisory Question: "Shall Madison County become a sanctuary county for law abiding gun owners to protect them from unconstitutional gun laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly?"

With 100 percent of the votes counted, Madison County becoming a county gun sanctuary had 67,351 votes in favor and 33,160 against.

In addition, taxpayers in Madison County voted on: "Shall all units of governments within Madison County first seek approval from the voters by advisory referendum before incurring any bond debt?"

With 100 percent of the votes counted, seeking voter approval before incurring bond debt had 91,473 votes in favor and 8,341 against.

Another referendum taxpayers in Madison County voted for on was the Fosterburg Water District Question. The question pertaining to whether trustees of the Fosterburg Water District should be elected instead of appointed. 

With 100 percent of votes counted, the Fosterburg Water District question had 2,823 votes in favor and 449 against.

Taxpayers in Madison County voted against a referendum calling for Alton Township to cease. 

With 100 percent of the votes counted, the referendum for Alton Township to cease had 3,586 votes in favor and 4,733 against.

Taxpayers in Madison County voted for a referendum calling for Godfrey Township to cease. 

With 100 percent of the votes counted, the referendum for Godfrey Township to cease had 4,947 votes in favor and 2,946 against.

Taxpayers in Madison County voted for a referendum calling for the park district known as the Collinsville Area Recreation District to be dissolved. 

With 100 percent of the votes counted,  the referendum for Collinsville Area Recreation District to be dissolved had 10,571 votes in favor and 2,624 against.
