Venice Fire District responded to 30 calls in 2018 - 36.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Venice included 23 fires - six structure fires, 10 vehicle fires and seven other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $58,500 in fire loss - or about $2,543 per fire.

The department also received six false calls, including one malicious call and five other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related deaths.
