State Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Vandalia) took to Facebook to post a call to action for his constituents after a Prison Review Board member voted to release an inmate who had killed a police officer.

“We need elected officials who stand up for their communities, not kneel down to leftist party leaders and campaign donors," Plummer said. "This reckless administration is allowing violent criminals out of prison left and right."

“One of the people making tens of thousands of dollars a year serving on the Prison Review Board is a convicted double murderer who literally just voted 'yes' to let one of his former prison mates, a convicted cop killer, out of prison.”

He continued, “These people are supposed to appear before my committee and the senate - and the Democrat majority has the power to compel them to do so - but JB [sic] does not want it to happen and not a single Democrat senator has stood with us Republicans on this common-sense issue.

“We have been battling this insanity for many months. Illinoisans need to blow up the phones and make their voice heard. These are your families and your communities they are endangering.”

Earlier this year, Plummer co-sponsored a bill that criminalizes the sale of firearms to felons. The bill states that a person who sells or gives any firearm to any person who has been convicted of a felony under the laws of Illinois or any other jurisdiction is guilty of a Class X felony for which he or she shall be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years
