There were 5,326 Black students enrolled in Madison County school districts in the 2022-23 school year, 0.7% more than the previous year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

Data showed that Black students made up 14% of the 37,967 students in the county. They were the second most represented ethnicity at the time.

Among the 13 districts in Madison County, Alton Community Unit School District 11 recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 1,738 students.
