ST. ELIZABETH'S HOSPITAL: St. Elizabeth’s among nation’s top hospitals for heart attack care

H

St. Elizabeth's Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 7.

Prairie Heart and Vascular Institute at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital recently received three national recognitions for cardiovascular care and outcomes in the treatment of heart attack patients.

The awards include the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2019, the Mission: Lifeline® Silver Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Award and the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Silver Quality Achievement Award.

The NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award recognizes St. Elizabeth’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that the hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. St. Elizabeth’s is one of only 86 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

Every year, more than 250,000 people experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack. The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call, to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge.

Additionally, receiving not one but two Mission: Lifeline awards further sets Prairie Heart and Vascular Institute at St. Elizabeth’s apart for the significant commitment to their critical role in the system of care for quickly and appropriately treating heart attack patients.

“Our interdisciplinary team of cardiovascular professionals, Prairie Heart physicians and EMS partners are dedicated to providing excellent care for our heart attack patients” said Bonnie Schnieder, MS, RT, cardiovascular services director. “We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in cardiac care by both of these nationally known organizations.”

Prairie Heart at St. Elizabeth's combines advanced technology and innovative treatment with a caring tradition to provide quality and accessible health care. The comprehensive services available to the region include a continuum of care through diagnostic testing such as stress tests, electrocardiograms, and diagnostic catheterization; emergency heart care; and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. In 2004, the hospital also became the first accredited Chest Pain Center in the St. Louis region and still maintains this high-level recognition today.

Executive Vice President of Prairie Heart Institute Kristin Doster noted, “St. Elizabeth’s and the doctors of Prairie are committed to providing high-quality, innovative heart care, and are proud to be among the top 5% of organizations for treating STEMI and NSTEMI patients. Our forward-thinking approach to heart care allows us to provide the newest and most advanced technologies to the community, including the minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and other cutting-edge heart and vascular therapies.”
