Erica Harriss for Senate has issued the following press release:

GLEN CARBON, IL - Erica Conway Harriss, the Republican Senate candidate for the 56th District and a sitting Madison County Board member, will now face an unknown opponent in the general election. Rachelle Aud Crowe, who had been seeking reelection as State Senator from the area, was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate to be the next U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of Illinois.

"I certainly wish Senator Crowe the best in her future endeavors. What has not changed is that the people of the Metro East deserve to have their voices heard in Springfield. I am running because the voices of parents, workers, and local business owners need to be the ones that echo in the halls of the Capitol, not those of political insiders," stated Harriss.

Senator Crowe, who was elected in 2018, will be compelled to relinquish her current position, leaving Harriss as the only candidate currently on the ballot to compete for the open Senate seat. The redrawn 56th District now covers the western portion of Madison County, as well as parts of northern St. Clair County. Democrats will have an opportunity to slate a candidate for the seat in the general election, to be held on November 8, 2022.

"My campaign is about bringing the power of government back to the local level where we can make decisions about how to educate our children, keep our families safe, and encourage economic growth without the overbearing hand of the state guiding us down a path we did not choose," Erica said.

Harriss was elected to the Madison County Board representing District 26 (Glen Carbon) in 2016 and reelected in 2020. She is a resident of Glen Carbon who was new to the political scene in 2016 and ran on a platform of being an advocate for the taxpayer, opposing wasteful spending, and making wise choices for the community. Her campaign touts that while most local taxing bodies increased bills to taxpayers, Harriss worked hard to reduce the size of the tax levy while balancing the budget and increasing funding for law enforcement and child advocacy.
